White Tiger

This rare variety was discovered in central India. In 1951, a creamy male was found and raised in captivity. He was mated to an orange female, but all the offspring was orange. Only after inbreeding, it became possible to produce offspring of a unique color. All animals with such a coat ever pictured and kept in the zoos are the offspring of that wild-caught creature. A gene determining the coat color is recessive; it’s linked with a number of hereditary disorders, that’s why inbreeding leads to numerous faults in the animals, especially if it was practiced through several generations. So, it should be performed very carefully.

It is a color variation of the Bengal species. These rare animals have creamy fur with chocolate stripes, blue eyes and pink nose. These animals are not albinos; such color occurs when both parents of the cub carry a gene for such coloring. Only one of 10,000 animals of this species is born with such a color, but in captivity it is possible to produce such beautiful animals by inbreeding close relatives.
