White Tigers - Diet

White tigers are carnivorous. Basically, the tiger's diet varies according to what is locally available. White tigers prefer deer, young buffalo, young elephants, and wild pigs. When starving, White tigers will eat almost anything, for instance, fish, fowl, lizards, frogs, crocodiles, or carrion.

Since White tigers are capable of consuming as much as 40 pounds of meat at a time, a tiger may not eat for several days. Man-eating and cattle killing are attributed to older tigers, and those that are injured.

White Tigers - Reproduction

White tigers normally breed between February and May. Females give birth to a litter of two cubs on the average. She can produce as many as six cubs, however, not all of them will survive. Males tend to stay with their females for only a short time after their cubs are born.

Female tigers reach the age of sexual maturity at about 3 years old, while male tigers become mature at about 4 years. White tigers breed every two to three years. The White tiger females usually look for a mate by leaving their scent on bushes or rocks.

The gestation period is about 108 days. The cubs are born blind, and weigh about 2.5 pounds. When the mother leaves the den for hunting, she hides her cubs in the rocks where they cannot be seen. Cubs of White tigers are cared for and brought up by the females.
